Last night, Justine Skye delivered an unapologetically woke rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner for the Nets’ opening game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Following several bars of vocal perfection, Justine wrapped her performance by taking a knee as she sang the final word “brave” — joining a host of players, fans, and activists over the past few weeks who’ve chosen to kneel instead of stand during the national anthem to protest and raise awareness about police brutality and killings of Black people that continue to plague our country.
“Got a bit shaky at the end .. was pretty uneasy about singing the anthem,” Justine shared in her IG post of the video. “I had to take a knee … and let my voice be heard. We will not be silenced. ✊🏿 #blacklivesmatter”
