Zendaya: No Longer That Somebody to Play Aaliyah?

Oh snap. Zendaya won’t be playing the role of Aaliyah anymore, after all.

And no, it’s not because the Twitterverse freaked out a little about her being cast. Apparently, according to E! News, there were production issues, such as trouble getting the rights to ‘Liyah’s music. It also turns out that Aaliyah’s family wasn’t even approached at all about being involved. (Leaving the fam out, though? Not a good look. Looks like [They] Need a Resolution. (Haha. No? Okay.) )

Aaliyah’s cousin and prez of her label, Blackground Records, told the New York Daily News“We want a major studio release along the lines of ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It,’ the Tina Turner movie. This needs A-list actors, A-list talent that can breathe life into what we think is a phenomenal story.”

What celeb do you think should play the role of Aaliyah? Comment below!

UPDATE: Alexandra Shipp will now play Aaliyah in the biopic. Find out more here!
