In her new role as Tinker Bell in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake Peter Pan and Wendy, Yara Shahidi is bringing that #BlackGirlMagic to the pixie dust-wielding character for the first time ever.
The latest grown-ish star to land such a role (last year, it was announced Halle Bailey would play Ariel in The Little Mermaid remake), Yara was being considered by director David Lowery from jump. “The studio and Lowery wanted to [seek diverse talent] from the get-go and quickly pursued Shahidi,” reports Deadline.
While there have been hella takes on Peter Pan over the years, we’re thinking this one will follow the version of the OG 1953 animated feature, as other Disney remakes have generally stuck to their original stories.
The best news to come out in the past several days, we’re all the way for this, just thinking of all the joy we’ll find when this film drops. For a few hours, we’ll get to leave the world behind and bid our cares goodbye.
