Halle Bailey is going under the sea, y’all!
Yesterday (July 3, 2019), news broke that ya’ girl copped the lead role in Disney’s live action remake of The Little Mermaid, and knowing that Ariel will post up in locs and brown skin is giving us LIFE. “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said director Rob Marshall in a statement.
Word is, this remake will include original songs (our faves, of course, are “Part of Your World”, “Under the Sea,” and “Kiss the Girl”), and Alan Menken, the composer for the OG 1989 film, will also introduce some new music and lyrics to the update.
Production and filming will begin in April 2020, but while you wait for the movie to drop, you can catch Halle and her sister Chloe every Wednesday on grown-ish.
