5 Hot Nail Trends to Rock the Prom

Set off your total prom style with digits that compliment — rather than ones that are matchy-matchy — your look with one of these show-stopping nail trends.

Cop this look: Paint your nails with your choice of base color. When the base is completely dry, grab a makeup sponge and dab the edges with a different color. Stamp the sponge on the nail, stopping about halfway down. Lastly, go over your nails with a clear coat. You can make it easier by applying a different color to each nail, starting with a light shade and ending with a dark color. For prom, dress it up with a layer of glitter.

Magnetic Nails

Cop This Look: Turning heads with this trendsetting option is as simple as buying a bottle of magnetic polish. Put the polish on and then hold the magnet over the top of each nail. You’ll have a unique and cute mani in minutes!

Reverse French Manicure

Cop This Look: A twist on the classic go-to French manicure, it’s elegant enough for fancy occasions, but not too simple to go unnoticed. Start by painting the entire nail white. Once it’s dry, go over it with a light base color and make sure to leave a visible strip of white (or you can fill that strip with glitter — see above) at the bottom of the nail. Add a clear topcoat to make it shine.

Metallic Nails

Cop This Look: Metallic nails are the perfect, vibrant accessory for ballroom gowns and short, edgy looks, alike.  Trick out your pointers with golds, silvers, blues, and purples.

Cop This Look: Start with a clear base coat and then layer on the glitter polish until your heart’s content. Or, for a more unconventional look, paint your nails in any color you want, and then, pick a small piece of jewelry (a small earring or the gem from a ring) and glue it to the finger of your choice.
