Black Lives Matter L.A. Let the NRA Know We Are Not the Ones with New Ad

“The only way we save our communities and our struggle for freedom is to fight this violence with the raised clenched Black fist of resistance.” -BLM L.A.

We already know the National Rifle Association (NRA) doesn’t care about Black lives — they’ve made that abundantly clear with their lack of response to Philando Castile’s murder and subsequent acquittal of his killer, as well as with their recent, reprehensible propaganda videos.

The videos employ a blatant “us” vs. “them” stance, refer to Obama as “their” ex-president, and insinuate that marchers and protestors aren’t law-abiding, rather they are “bullying and terrorizing” those that are, all to support the use violence against Black people and our allies.

What the NRA and those like them still don’t seem to get, though? We will never keep quiet in the face of those who seek to oppress us. Those who seek to ignore that our lives are important. Those who seem to forget that we, too, are America. The L.A. Chapter of Black Lives Matter let ’em know, though. As Mic recently reported, BLM L.A. issued their own clapback video, which opens with the chapter’s rep Funmilola Fagbamila saying, “They use their guns to assassinate Black people. They use their schools to funnel Black students through a school-to-prison pipeline.” The ad goes on to address corrupt politicians, white supremacist’s domestic terrorism, police brutality, and more.

In the end comes the real call out: “What’s with the aggressive fear-mongering tactics?” Fagbamila asks. “We’re talking about our lives here.” She continues, “When the NRA issues a public call to their constituents inciting violence against people who are constitutionally fighting for their lives, we don’t take that lightly. We know that we are not safe, but we are not scared, either.”

Let the NRA know you condemn their ads inciting violence by calling them at 1-800-670-3888 (choose option 3). Call every day, multiple times a day if you’d like. (They’re open on Saturdays, too — we just called.) Flood their phone lines until their hateful rhetoric is removed.
