According to a new report from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), one out of 12 beauty and personal care products geared toward Black girls and women are “highly hazardous.” Ingredients in 1,177 of these products were recently tested, and the results, which were published on Tuesday (Dec. 6), showed a gang of dangers — including potential cancer, hormone, and reproductive health risks. Among the worst culprits: relaxers, lipsticks, foundations, and concealers.
“As a Black woman myself, I was disheartened that Black women have fewer options for healthier products when they are choosing from products specifically targeted to them,” Nneka Leiba, deputy director for research at EWG and the report’s co-author, told TIME in a recent interview.

thanks so much for the fab review of our solid shampoo, @solarpwrdlions !! We're so happy you are enjoying the #grandpoobar ・・・ 😍💆👍👍💖! I was just gonna post a pic and casually rave about the #OyinHandmade #GrandPooBar, so why not give you guys a review! This shampoo bar is great! It's winter, my itchy scalp is itchier, so I've been delving into both #heavyoiling and using thick butters for my #LCOmethod. This shampoo has really had my back! I will say that I tried it before I transitioned to paraben free, silicone free (etc, the whole lot-free) styling, and it didn't lather. But after a few clarifying sessions, I tried it again, and it's great! Once my hair is soaking wet, I go in with this bar, and it lathers nicely. I don't have to rub like crazy so I avoid matting. It cleans my hair well without feeling stripped or dry. It feels clean but protected. The shampoo gives me the type of barrier a butter would, but it doesn't feel oily. My hair cuticles feel smooth and sealed (very similar to how a candlestick feels smooth on the side, but this is a #veganshampoo that contains no wax 👌👍). I've used this shampoo more than once a week too… it's getting hard for me to last a whole week until #washday. My scalp seems to be less irritated (and my face…acne) when I wash 2-3 times a week…and this #shampoo holds me down. Because it's not stripping, it doesn't take days for my hair to regain the softness and moisture it needs. I already have it after I shampoo and (deep) condition, I just seal it in via #LCO. And who doesn't love clean bouncy hair🏀! Honestly, my current mindset is… if a shampoo dries my hair out, it's not right for me and I shouldn't even use it on my scalp. This shampoo is great. I cut it in half so it lasts longer (that's what you're seeing in this pic). I love Oyin Handmade💕!! Their product line is becoming a staple for me, and I'm happy to have them through the cold winter months!
